Transitioning to natural hair can feel like such a process. You get tired of looking at your roots. The faded color on the ends isn’t appealing. You might look in the mirror and just wonder is it even worth it? Should I keep growing the natural or just color over it?
Whether you are naturally grey, brown, blonde or a redhead your natural is just that. Natural. It is uniquely you and in most cases the color you naturally look best in. You may be thinking to yourself, “That can’t be true otherwise I wouldn’t be coloring my hair.” Generally speaking your natural hair color will better compliment your skin tone. For example, those with warmer skin tones normally will have warmer tones in their hair. “My natural hair is boring.” Think again, no one else has your unique genetic makeup. No one else has that little hint of red or blonde.
“So, it might look better…what else?” Going natural is more cost effective in the long run. Just think, as much as we love seeing you here every 3 weeks to get your color refreshed, that’s a lot for your bank account. Instead, with your natural look you can come in for a trim every 6-8 weeks. You could even have a little more to spend on that delicious smelling shampoo your stylist uses on your hair.
The ‘how’ can feel complicated. The process is different for everyone. Primarily the condition your hair is in now can play a huge role in the process. The first step is to communicate and consult with your stylist. Let them know your goals and worries, they know your hair better than anyone. They will address your needs and concerns and help you make a plan to combat those concerns.
“I’m afraid of seeing a band of roots, I need it to be blended.” Don’t stress! Adding dimensional pieces into your hair will break up the growth band. Typically if you are darker or lighter going back to grey, the process is similar. You begin by adding more of what you already love about your natural hair. Whether that be the darker pieces or the lighter pieces is up to you. In the end it’s all about getting the right tone. The closer we can get that tone to your natural now, the easier it will be to grow out your hair.
“What if I’m not naturally grey?” Not a problem! We can still get you where you want to be. Start asking yourself what you like about your natural hair. Your stylist will begin by adding more of those elements into your unnatural hair. Like going grey, a focus on tone is vital to your transition. Is your hair naturally warmer or cooler? Adding that warmth or coolness back into your hair will help a ton!
