Preparing for Your Massage Appointment
August 8, 2025If you aren’t used to getting facials, it can be a little stressful when you schedule one. Questions like “How do I act?” “What do I wear?” “How should I prepare?” “What should I expect?” and more can run through your head at rapid speed. We’re here to calm those questions and help you prepare for your pampering session!
Let’s Prep!
Prep for a facial is typically pretty simple! You’ll want to avoid harsh exfoliants, retinol, or AHA’s 24-48 hours before your appointment. This helps prevent sensitivity throughout the appointment. Some Estheticians prefer you come with a clean face if possible. Here at Tami’s Salon and Spa, we understand life gets crazy and sometimes you need a quick, relaxing facial during your day. If you show up with makeup on, we won’t stress. Just know we will be taking most of it off for your facial.
Inside the Facial Room
Every Spa and Esthetician varies a little, and here is what to expect when you come to Tami’s Salon and Spa for a facial:
- Consultation: This is so your Esthetician can tailor the facial to you. They will ask you questions, including your current skincare routine. Please remember, we are not here to shame you on what you’re using or pressure you into a sale. We’re here to help you reach your skincare goals and enhance what you’re already doing. It’s important to be honest with your Estheticians so they can help you reach those goals.
- Getting on the table: Your Esthetician will leave the room to prep the products for your facial. During this time, you can choose to stay in your clothes, or change into our spa wrap. Keep in mind, if our clients are comfortable with it, we do apply products down the neck and to the decollete area, which is the upper part of your chest and collarbone area, and we don’t want to get product on your clothes.
- Conversation level: You control the conversation level during your facial. You can talk as much or as little as you want! Your Esthetician will quietly let you know what they’re doing, why, and any other important information. Other than that, you can chat, you can sleep, whatever you need!

Extend the Benefits
We do recommend avoiding makeup for 24 hours post-facial. This helps let your skin breathe and fully absorb the products applied during the facial. We also recommend skipping exfoliation for a couple days post facial. We exfoliated really well during your facial, and we don’t want to over do it. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and wear SPF! Drinking water helps hydrate your skin, promoting radiance and elasticity! It can be tricky to find an SPF you love, so make sure you ask your Esthetician for recommendations so you can protect your skin from sun damage! Finally, book your next facial so you can keep the benefits coming in regularly!
Final Thoughts
We hope this guide is helpful when booking your first facial appointment! Our Estheticians are here to make the appointment run smoothly and help you feel confident and radiant.
