When one thinks of waxing, it can sometimes be accompanied by nervousness and fear. We get it! We get questions all the time wondering how to make a wax appointment hurt less. Luckily for you, we have some tips and tricks to help you through your waxing service.

There are different things that you can do that help waxing hurt less. Let’s explore and find out what could work best for you!

Numbing Creams

A numbing cream is a good option for someone with a lower pain tolerance. The cream soaks into the skin and numbs the nerve endings in the area to reduce pain before the procedure. 

Pain Reliever 

Taking a pain reliever such as Ibuprofen is a good option before a waxing service as well to reduce the pain a little as well. We recommend taking a pain reliever about 20-30 minutes before your appointment.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is always important, especially before your wax appointment. This doesn’t mean downing a bunch of water right before. Instead, be mindful about 24 hours before your appointment to drink plenty of water. When you don’t, your skin tightens around your hair follicles, making it harder for the wax to grab and pull the hairs, thus being more painful.

What to Avoid

Avoiding sugar and caffeine, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and staying calm will also help minimize pain. These can all lead to your skin dehydrating, making your skin tighten around the hair follicle. As we learned above, when your skin tightens around the hair follicle it makes your waxing service more painful.

Your Esthetician should be holding your skin tight while waxing in order to help you feel less pain during the appointment. Having open communication with your Esthetician is vital, so let them know if you have any questions or concerns at any point before, during, or after your appointment.
