Benefits of Massage Therapy
October 12, 2023What is Facial Masking?
If you don’t have a mask added to your skincare routine already, read on! Masks are a must have in your skincare regime. Facial masking is the application of a mask for various benefits. Masks can be used to trap moisture, increase hydration, reduce redness, decrease acne, dry exfoliate, and firm/tighten the skin. There are different mask types based on skin needs and concerns.
Benefits of Masking:
A skincare staple, face masks are designed to give your skin an instant boost with intermediate use. Face masks are occlusive, which means they create a physical barrier to lock in beneficial ingredients thus allowing your skin to absorb the ingredients more efficiently.
Because masks are so powerful, it’s important you find the one that will help you the most. Masks can help with one or more of the following:
- Hydrates and moisturizes the skin
- Refines large pores
- Improves skin texture
- Absorbs excess oil and dirt
- Decongests clogged pores
- Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhances elasticity
- Improves the look of breakouts
- Brightens dark spots
Different types of Masks:
Along with choosing the right mask benefits for you and your skin, it’s important to look at the type of mask!
Cream Masks: Cream masks work best for dry, dehydrated, or aging skin to add moisture and ingredients back into the skin. Use cream masks to maintain a plump and young-looking appearance!
Gel Masks: Gel masks are for those of us with oily to normal skin types. These masks have a lightweight texture with a jam or jelly- like consistency that helps minimize oil and tighten the appearance of pores!
Clay Masks: Clay masks are great for treating ongoing skin conditions related to acne and can make an excellent spot treatment! These masks are also absorbent and exfoliating with astringent properties.
Exfoliating Masks: Exfoliating masks are specially formulated to remove dead skin cells, remove dead skin cells and enhance skin’s natural turnover process. These can be found in the form of a chemical peel or fine ground particles.
Warming Masks: Warming masks contain active spices that cause the skin to feel a warm, tingling sensation and may turn the skin red. These invigorate the complexion and increase blood flow.
How do I do it?
Facial masks are great to add to your skincare routine 1-2x per week. Before you mask, you should cleanse, tone and apply a facial essence to your skin. By doing these steps beforehand, your skin will be clear of impurities and excess oil, provide a base layer of hydration, and prep your skin to help it absorb the benefits of your face mask fully!
Once you’re ready to apply your mask make sure you keep these 4 things in mind:
- Apply your mask evenly
- Don’t forget your neck and Decollete!
- Leave on for the recommended amount of time (usually 5-10 minutes)
- Remove gently with a damp cloth.
